Using the ‘5 Fruit Solution’ is the best way to ensure that you are getting enough calories on your raw/alkaline diet and to prevent dips in your blood sugar level and it simply requires that you eat an adequate amount of fresh, ripe, raw, whole, organic fruits.

Here’s what to do:
Grab five pieces of fruit. These can be five different fruits – e.g. a handful of grapes, a peach, an apple, a banana and a large slice of melon – or it can be five of the same fruits – e.g. five bananas or five oranges.
You must eat these five portions of fruit all at once, on an empty stomach and not with anything else.
Many people make the mistake of eating just one or two portions of fruit when hungry and craving something sweet, only to find that 15 minutes later, the cravings are back and they want to reach for a chocolate bar or similar. The Five Fruit Solution combats this. Let’s look at why this is…
The average portion of fruit ( 1 apple, 2 oranges, 1 banana, 5 dates, 1 slice of pineapple, 2 plums etc…) contains 100 calories.
When you crave something sweet, generally it requires a good few hundred calories to satisfy you. For example a slice of cake may contain 400-700 calories, a medium-sized bar of chocolate contains 250-400 calories, a bowl of ice-cream contains around 500 calories, a medium sized fizzy drink contains around 300 calories.
Therefore, by eating one or two portions of fruit to quell your sugar cravings, although a wise choice in principle, it will not do the trick because you simply need a greater volume of food to be truly satisfied. By applying the 5 Fruit Solution, you will be getting around 500 calories in the form of nutritious, non-processed, satisfying, fibre-rich fruit sugars.
Try it and see how it works for you. I can pretty much guarantee that if you do this, you will not fancy the dense, refined sugar and fat laden thing that you originally wanted. You will be satisfied and will not put you blood sugar out of kilter with peaks and dips – one of the main factors in causing Type 2 Diabetes.
Here’s a useful tip: I find that eating five very ripe bananas or five portions of dates (around 25 dates) really hits the spot and feels so decadently sweet and satisfying.
Also, over the years I have found that my optimum diet consists of eight alkaline foods (can include alkaline fruits such as lemons, limes and grapefruits and wheatgrass juice) and five to seven portions of fruit per day.
Therefore I recommend eating 13-15 portions of fruit and veg per day. (Blows the government’s ‘5 a day’ of total fruit and veg out of the water!)
